Week 7- Video Joke

On this assignment we were supposed to take the joke below and portray it in two different ways.

JOKE #6
A very shy guy goes into a bar and sees a beautiful woman sitting at the bar. After an hour of gathering up his courage, he finally goes over to her and asks, tentatively, "Um, would you mind if I chatted with you for a while?"

She responds by yelling, at the top of her lungs, "NO! I won't sleep with you tonight!"

Everyone in the bar is now staring at them.

Naturally, the guy is hopelessly and completely embarrassed and he slinks back to his table.

After a few minutes, the woman walks over to him and apologizes. She smiles at him and says, "I'm sorry if I embarrassed you. You see, I'm a graduate student in psychology, and I'm studying how people respond to embarrassing situations."

To which he responds, at the top of his lungs, "What do you mean $200?!"

The first way we portrayed this joke was to do it in a traditional story-telling fashion by following the joke almost word for word. We manipulated the picture in a way to draw attention to the appropriate parts of the story. In certain scenes, we used lines and rhythm to draw the viewer's eyes and mind towards the appropriate character with props and scenery.

Joke 1:

The second way that we portrayed the joke was in an old fashioned silent film style. In order to make the video more accurate, we had to work with our writer to change the script a little so that the style would all by conducive to what we were shooting for. We made the acting more exaggerated and we tried paying more attention to the visual elements such as depth cues and rhythm. We created rhythm by using the siding of the "bar" and the repeated use of bottles of alcohol.

We made it a priority in both of the videos to consistently follow the rule of thirdsto use different kinds of depth cuesand to edit in a way that wasn't a distraction the the viewers.
